§I. PROOF OF THEOREM I This theorem is easily obtained from the results of [i]. We first strengthen Lemma 1.5. Let the pair (AI,L I) denote, as in §3 of [I], a free pair defined by by the weak identity [(Woyj, g] = O, or, in view of Theorem I.I, a free pair of the variety of pairs generated by (Mz, $~ (4 K~; here ~I is a free Lie algebra of the variety ~a~ C${ (2,K)). A natural question is: is it true that ideals of Lie identities in L~ extend in a one-to-one manner to ideals of identities of the pair (AI,L ,) ?
