Abstract

Fingertip replantation has been slow to gain acceptance in hand surgery because of the challenging nature of the procedure and the perceived notion that little functional gain is achieved. However, no other method can restore form and function as well, i.e., digital length and fingernail function while avoiding a painful stump neuroma. Recent studies have confirmed this advantage. With the advent of supermicrosurgery techniques, and firm knowledge of the vascular anatomy of the fingertip, success of replantation is now in the order of 86 %. This chapter discusses the indications, results, surgical anatomy, technique, and strategies to achieve a successful outcome in fingertip replantation.
