Abstract

AbstractA novel antenna candidate for intelligent wearable systems at 30 GHz is presented in this letter. It consists of a compact axial‐mode helical antenna with a ground plane mounted on a plastic ring. This choice allows to achieve a wide bandwidth and circular polarization in a compact package. A prototype is manufactured, and the different classical key antenna metrics are investigated: return loss, realized gain, axial ratio and radiation pattern. The bandwidth and radiation characteristics obtained make the wearable ring antenna suitable to be used for MM‐wave applications within the frequency band from 25 to 33 GHz.
