Abstract

The extended fine structure (EFS) in the vicinity of the L III absorption discontinuity of rhenium has been studied using a 40 cm bent-crystal X-ray spectrograph. The absorption maxima in the EFS have been interpreted on the basis of Lytle's theory. It has been shown that an absorption maximum lying at 30 eV from the L III discontinuity can be explained using the concept of electronic plasma.
