Abstract

A new species of a myxosporidian parasite, Myxobolus bivacuolatus n. sp. is described from the muscles of the intestine of the fresh water fish, Clarius batrachus. Cysts emasuring 4-6 × 2-3 mm were found on the surface of the intestinal wall or were embedded in the muscles of the intestine. The spores were spherical having a diameter of 9.0 μm. The two spore valves meet along a median wavy sutural ridge. The spore valves showed several parallel wavy striations all over the surface. Two polar capsules of equal size measuring 4.2 × 3.0 μm and opening independently to the outside were present on either side of the sutural ridge at the anterior end. The polar filament showed 6-7 coils wound in a clock-wise direction and when fully extruded measuring 18-24 μm. Two iodinophilous vacuoles having a diameter of 1.8-2.0 μm were present in the sporoplasm.
