Abstract

Corrections of order α5 and α6 are calculated for muonic hydrogen in the fine-structure interval ΔEfs = E(2P3/2) − E(2P1/2) and in the hyperfine structure of the 2P1/2-and 2P3/2-wave energy levels. The resulting values of ΔEfs = 8352.08 µeV, ΔẼhfs(2P1/2) = 7819.80 µeV, and ΔẼhfs(2P3/2) = 3248.03 µeV provide reliable guidelines in performing a comparison with relevant experimental data and in more precisely extracting the experimental value of the (2P–2S) Lamb shift in the muonic-hydrogen atom.
