The available research knowledge is not based on studies of sociology instruction, but nonetheless offers clues to practices more promising than those fixing on student attributes or situational characteristics, rather than the interaction between them. The analysis of aptitude-treatment interaction (A TI) can usefully revolve around the manipulation of four types of variables: environmental (including characteristics of teaching style, classroom, and school), student status (including characteristics of motivation and cognition), student responses (reactions, class-, and course-related behaviors) and outcomes (types and extent of learning).
