Abstract

Launching the Indonesia Digital Roadmap 2021–2024 will highlight the importance of preparing villages to succeed in supporting the sustainable transformation of forest communities. In this study, we investigate how digital technology has impacted forests. We discuss the causes of socioeconomic developments and how they can sustain forests. The introduction of online public services in villages has stimulated the enthusiasm of forest communities to become technologically savvy. Entrepreneurs and development groups are becoming motivated as their demand for digital technology increases. The complex coordination between the digital leadership of multiple entities and institutional networks is required for these developments. The digital divide and other challenges are addressed to build sophisticated forest communities by creating a community with a digital mindset and providing local assistance through online public services. With digital technology previously unknown to forest communities, a new community was developed and transformed into a digitally-based forest community (Neue Gemeinschaft). However, to ensure the continuation of economic activity in forest communities, the local government's policy of implementing digital road maps in villages requires support. Therefore, forest village development can be sustainable with a significant impact. Livelihood and welfare enhancements still require a lengthy time frame. This finding further supports the idea that digital transformation policy is a valuable social innovation for designing forest community sustainability strategies. In addition, this transformation demonstrates the potential opportunity for forest communities to be swiftly equal to cities.
