Abstract

Biodiversity Global funds for protecting biodiversity are too low to prevent wildlife populations from falling and species extinctions from increasing. In a Perspective, Barbier et al. call for a global agreement for biodiversity modeled on the Paris Climate Agreement, with national targets, policies, and timelines. The overall goal is ambitious: to conserve at least 50% of terrestrial, inland water, coastal, and marine habitats by 2050. Formal involvement of the private sector, particularly in areas such as seafood, forestry, agriculture, and insurance, will be crucial to raise the necessary funds. Science , this issue p.
