Abstract

Abstract Financial systemic risk (or systemic risk) is any existential threat to the general stability of the financial system. Because the financial system is pervasive, diverse, and constantly evolving, systemic risk is both multifaceted and an active research frontier. This article provides an overview of the growing literature on systemic risk, organized around four broad categories of system vulnerabilities, and the related economic models.
