Abstract

What clues do current accounting and reporting trends provide for projecting the patterns that will unfold in the 1980s? A leading observer and mover of accounting trends during the 1970s, John C. (Sandy) Burton is especially well equipped to answer this question. Dr. Burton is Arthur Young Professor of and Finance at Columbia University. He was Chief Accountant of the Securities and Exchange Commission from 1972 to 1976 and Deputy Mayor of Finance for the City of New York in 1977. He is a member of the Financial Standards Advisory Council. William Norby, Senior Vice President of Duff and Phelps, Inc., and the editor of our Accounting for Financial Analysis column, based his interview on Mr. Burton's address to the SEC Conference of the California CPA Foundlation.
