Abstract

Enteral access procedures can represent a significant proportion of many surgical and gastroenterologist’s practices (Reference) and a fundamental understanding of coding and reimbursement practices can assist in ensuring compensation for time, energy, and expertise devoted to these efforts. There is minimal medical literature and training available to clinicians to allow for some rudimentary comprehension of this very complex system. This review will discuss the basics of coding terminology and focus specifically on factors relevant to enteral access.
