Abstract
Principal investigators in nonprofit research organizations often play the role of project managers. Although nonprofit grant writing and technical reporting are covered well in the literature, there is a lack of published insight into financial analysis for young principal investigators. This article also provides simple but often overlooked best practices on nonprofit research financial planning, tracking, and reporting. The exercises presented in this article can aid young principal investigators.
