Abstract

This chapter considers the role that finance plays in shaping the world's biggest football tournament, incorporating key themes including the business of FIFA, regulatory accounting frameworks and legal requirements covering the income statement and balance sheet, FIFA's finances, the Women's World Cup, the business model of hosting the FIFA World Cup and future financing of the World Cup. All sport organisations have a responsibility to produce financial statements: the legal requirements for which, will be determined by the nature of the company. It has introduced the concepts surrounding the finances of the FIFA World Cup, the business of FIFA and the cost of hosting a tournament to the public purse.
