Abstract
One of the main research directions of our institute is represented by the hydrogen isotopes separation process. The research conducted at ICSI during the last 30 years and particularly those related to the Pilot Plant currently being developed at our institute, allowed us to lead a large project at Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant – the designing of a Detritiation Facility (CTRF). The CTRF design was complex and requested sustained efforts from all participants – ICSI led a team of design companies from Romania and Canada.CTRF main sections are Water Detritiation System (WDS) where actually run the detritiation process of the heavy water and Cryogenic Distillation where tritium is extracted from gas stream, followed by retention on metal getter beds. The WDS design was based on the liquid catalytic exchange process and includes also a deuterium make-up system, water purification (degasser) and a gas stream drying unit. This work is focused on the presentation of the WDS final stage design.
