Abstract

In the recent years, there is an increase in the cardiovascular disease which has raised the need for the CVDs risk detection. Out of the wide variety of measurements that has been used for CVD prediction, electrocardiography (ECG) is highly preferred. Direct transmission of biological signals such as electrocardiogram (ECG) and electroencephalogram (EEG) through mobile network provides practically unlimited movement of the patients and unlimited coverage area. Transmission of such signals over a bandlimited channel is subject to inter symbol interference (ISI), whereby adjacent symbols on the output of the channel overlap each other causing degradation of error performance. This paper deals with the performance of adaptive channel equalizer on ECG for an efficient data transmission. Adaptive equalization techniques such as LMS (Least Mean Square) and RLS (Recursive Least Square), NLMS (Normalised LMS) has been used for channel equalization and the performance of LMS is studied in this work.
