Abstract

Since 2000, following extensive debates on the “Jedwabne pogrom”, a proliferation of initiatives has demonstrated the will to dialogue with the Polish Jewish past in Poland and to confront the shadows of national history. As evidenced by the recent work of Alina Skibinski, films of the Polish Holocaust reflect the duty to remember the reality. An era of radical change is under way, as the film shows the work of Israeli artist Yael Bartana, who was selected to represent Poland at the Venice Biennale in 2011. However, as suggested by the analysis of recent Polish documentaries and the TV series Time of honor, a fiction based on the Resistance in Warsaw during the occupation, which characterizes the degrading, if not negative image, of the Jew in his dealings in Polish society during the Holocaust. The film industry and national television remain in the background, compared to the work of historians as the works of Polish contemporary artists highlights the destruction of the Jews and Polish attitudes against the Holocaust when it comes to talking to the general public.
