Abstract

Double Indemnity is regarded as a classic film noir, an archetypal demonstration of all those traits that came to the foreground in post-world War II Hollywood crime melodrama: highly stylised low-key lighting, circular or convoluted narrative, and a atmosphere of corruption in which violence, paranoia, and obsessive desire hold. It also constructed a classic femme fatale. She resides in ambiguity of her active sexuality, her narrative agency, her visual centrality and the problematic nature of this sexual power. She is a textual fantasy demonstrates symptom of male fears about feminism. This paper is going to unfold the presentation on sexuality through psychoanalytical readings.
