Abstract
The editors of the ESC Journal Family are welcoming its newest member, the EHJ – Quality of Care and Clinical Outcomes , and are looking forward to working with its editor-in-chief and team. The present editorial by the chairman of the publications committee of the European Society of Cardiology outlines its place within the ESC Journal Family and the gaps it will close in the educational program of the European Society of Cardiology . The ESC Journal Family has grown impressively over the last decade in size, quality, and impact.1 Currently, the European Society of Cardiology publishes 12 journals. These journals cover everything from general cardiology, the flagship journal the European Heart Journal ( EHJ ), to many specialty journals of cardiovascular medicine ( Figure 1 ). In addition, the journal of our surgical colleagues, the European Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery , has been affiliated with the ESC Journal Family .2 As such, the ESC Journal Family is the largest group of cardiovascular journals, outnumbering its US competitors. Figure 1 The growing ESC Journal Family today works closely together and now also cooperates intensely with EuroIntervention , the official journal of the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiac Interventions (EAPCI), and has welcomed in 2012 the EHJ – Acute Cardiac Care , the official journal of the European Association of Acute Cardiac Care . At the beginning of 2014, the European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery has been associated with the Family and in 2014, the EHJ – Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy & Drug Therapy . In 2015, we are pleased to welcome the EHJ Quality of Care and Clinical Outcomes . Thus, as of now 14 ESC journals cover the entire spectrum of cardiovascular medicine and surgery. Most recently, the ESC approved several new journals covering fields which had been neglected so far. These journals … [↵][1]*Corresponding author.
