Abstract

This chapter deals with the problem of holding a large amount of (relatively) non-volatile data. It arose because of experiences with applications in which it was necessary to hold a very large amount of data but on a machine with a limited amount of memory. Due to financial and portability constraints a database was not an option. Indeed, as this was the only situation where large amounts of data were being held, it was not considered a viable option to purchase a database management system. This is a common situation, and one that many find that they face.KeywordsVirtual MachineInternal MemoryInstance VariableClass VectorPublic ClassThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
