Abstract
One of the main goals of any professional organization must be to provide ample educational opportunities to members. The members of FIGO are the National Societies. FIGO has been working with the National Societies to promote education and research in many ways and some of these are outlined below. The biggest event in education is the triennial World Congress. A separate chapter is devoted to this event. This large educational meeting spans 5 days with an array of subjects presented. As a benefit to young gynecologists in our profession, a fellowship program has been introduced so that approximately 50 young gynecologists are sponsored for the World Congress. In addition they usually visit a center of excellence for 2 weeks in the city where the congress is to take place. Educational materials are produced by FIGO in a regular manner. The International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics is a monthly publication that carries original research as well as review articles and guidelines produced by leading colleges like the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Supplements of the journal covering special topics are produced from time to time. A separate chapter on the journal is also contained in this volume.
