Abstract

This year is the tenth anniversary of The Lancet Respiratory Medicine. Has 10 years made a difference in sepsis, a syndrome that has caused deaths for centuries? As we are in the era of innovation, we would have hoped to see progress in the prevention and care of sepsis. We would have expected, similar to other areas of health care, to have an improved understanding of sepsis, the mechanisms of dysregulated inflammatory response, how to properly identify sepsis and, most importantly, how to adequately treat patients.
