Abstract

Fighting Games and the Growth Mindset examines how a specific genre of video game and its community have cultivated a culture of personal growth. Over the last 30+ years these games have inspired millions towards reflection and self-improvement. This paper examines the various skills players develop playing these games and applies them towards real life examples. My goal is to inspire readers to reflect on their own development and discover new ways to grow their skills. This paper focuses on critical feedback, effective practice, risk analysis, interpersonal skills, and mental health. All of these skills come together to form a state of kaizen and continuous improvement. My research examines dozens of different games and the skills they can teach its not only players but everyone interested in self improvement. I accomplish this through my own personal research and reviewing the experience of my peers, both immediate and throughout the larger global community.
