Abstract

The intent of this paper is to give a historical overview of the Bioenvironmental Engineering program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T SU). Founded in 1891, NC A&T SU is one of two land-grant universities in North Carolina. Included in this history of the program are statistics relative to graduates, faculty, and staff since the inception of the program. Major developments over the years are emphasized. Areas of expertise and research interests of current faculty members are given. A brief overview of alumni and current students is provided. The Agricultural Engineering program began at NC A&T SU in 1950 and has undergone various modifications to meet the ever-changing demands of society. The program was the first nationally accredited Agricultural Engineering program at a minority institution in the USA and is one of two such programs at minority institutions. To its credit this program has graduated more African- American Agricultural Engineers than any other program in the USA.
