Abstract

Abstract This paper presents a case study on automation for robotic car assembly in a Swedish car manufacturer, evaluates the systems performance, describes the IAM model proposed by ESPRIT projects PRIAM and EIAMUG both dealing with Fieldbus-based automation with the support of Intelligent Actuation and Measurements, addresses the applicability of IAM model to Robotic car assembly, concludes that the future automation will be IAM-based with a integrated Control, Maintenance, technical Management, so called CMM structure. Fieldbus, as an enabling technology, is the key to this new automation. The benefits by using IAM model are drawn in term of control, maintenance and technical management.
