Abstract
A computer code utilizing field theory has been developed to analyze the pill box window. The model is a sudden transition from rectangular to circular waveguide, with the window in the circular waveguide, and a sudden transition back to rectangular waveguide. Since this is a field theory analysis, all relevant higher-order mode interactions are taken into account. The solution obtained is the amplitude of the in each section of the pill box window. Thus the results can be used to obtain a prediction of the windows S-parameters, approximate field strength, and frequency and Q of resonances due to ghost modes of the window. Since typical window designs are arrived at with heavy reliance on empirical techniques, this field theory approach represents a significant improvement.
