Abstract

This chapter provides guidance on field project and staff management. Project planning is complicated. Before going to the field, it is helpful to be familiar with planning precursors such as context analysis, stakeholder analysis, SWOT analysis, and force field analysis. It is also helpful to be familiar with planning tools such as problem trees, objective trees, project maps, logframes, and workplans. Certain planning steps have particular boundary conditions or sensitivities for an organization. Director’s input is especially important in establishing priorities, selecting a strategy, and developing a budget.
