Abstract

We report a systematic investigation of the magnetic properties of Ni substituted Dy5Pd2 cluster glass system. Magnetic susceptibility result shows that both the compounds undergo paramagnetic to cluster glass transition. Remarkably, below this transition, they exhibit an additional field induced magnetic phase transition. This field induced nature of the magnetic phase transition is also clearly visible in the applied field response of magnetization and isothermal magnetic entropy change. Additionally, the cluster glass magnetic state is also analyzed by the temperature dependent magnetization memory effect and nonlinear DC susceptibility studies. Both the studies have confirmed the presence of two glassy transitions in these intermetallic compounds.
