Abstract

Effect of the substitution of Ag for In on a valence transition in YbInCu 4 has been investigated by the high field magnetization measurements. A valence transition has been observed in YbIn 1− x Ag x Cu 4 with x≤0.1. All samples with x≤0.1 show the same temperature dependence of the transition field, which suggests that the mechanism of the valence transition induced by magnetic field is not affected by the substitution of Ag for In up to 10%. The valence transition is found to occur in the system when the temperature and field satisfy a simple elliptic relation.
