Abstract

In this paper, we present our initial findings from a dipstick carried out in urban India with 24 users to understand their fitness related needs and activities. We highlight some key findings in terms of motivation, social influences and problems that evolve with this user segment while they carry out their fitness activities. Moreover, we have put forth four key personas that encompass a major portion of user profiles relevant to personal fitness and health in India. Through this dipstick study, we intend to lay the foundation for other researchers and designers interested in exploring fitness technology for Indian users.
