Abstract
A torque meter equipped with a wireless inductive coupler was developed and installed between the transmission and differential of a tractor so that the transmission output torque could be measured. The torque meter and associated instrumentation were used to evaluate field tractive efficiency of a tractor operating in two- and four-wheel-drive on selected soil surfaces. The system has proven to be a simple and effective method for evaluating field tractive efficiency.
