Abstract

In order to investigate the effects of compost and nitrogen on the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of forage maize and some physical and chemical properties of soil, a factorial experiment with 9 treatments in a factorial randomized complete block design with RCFS was conducted. Natural province of Tehran was conducted in 2014. Treatments included three levels of residual compost (0, 10 and 20 t ha-1) and three levels of nitrogen (0, 100 and 200 kg ha-1). The effect of municipal waste and nitrogen compost on yield and yield components was significant. The use of municipal solid waste compost significantly increased the electrical conductivity of soil, nitrate, iron, zinc uptake and significantly decreased soil reaction. Waste compost application also improved some of the soil physical properties including significant reduction in bulk density and increased field capacity and percentage of available soil water. Maximum dry forage yield of 21.44 ton / ha was obtained from application of 20 ton / ha municipal waste compost with 200 kg N‌/‌ha.
