Abstract

Transverse spin freezing in $a\ensuremath{-}{\mathrm{Fe}}_{92}{\mathrm{Zr}}_{8}$ has been studied using longitudinal field muon spin relaxation in fields of up to 5.5 T. The fluctuations associated with freezing of the transverse spin components are confirmed as a robust signature of ${T}_{\mathrm{xy}}.$ A $1/B$ dependence for ${T}_{\mathrm{xy}}(B)$ is observed, in qualitative disagreement with all current theoretical descriptions of the transition.
