Abstract

Application of suitable additional intermittent magnetic fields is proposed as an alternative to magnetic shielding in searches for $n\ensuremath{-}\overline{n}$ transitions. The quenching effect of the Earth's field can be negated by assuring that, within a characteristic time interval, a neutron experiences zero field on average.
