Abstract

SUMMARY Experimental and field infections of calves with Ostertagia ostertagi are described. Calves artificially challenged early and mid-way through the field infection, and parasite-free calves introduced to heavy field infection, succumbed to the infection, while calves challenged later survived. The abomasal lesions observed in the calves were very similar, differing mainly in degree. High percentages of immature stages were only seen in recently infected parasitefree calves.
