Abstract

Abstract “Fictive kin” is the term used to describe relationships between people who are regarded as if they are family even though no blood or legal ties exist. Long thought to be a distinctive phenomenon within the African American population, fictive kin relationships have been found in a wide range of situations and among diverse populations.
