Abstract

Fibre orientation has been investigated in different thermoplastic polymers reinforced by short glass fibres. The aim is to quantify the fibre orientation state from polished cross-sections, whereby a computer-aided image analysis is used to measure the contour of the fibres. To garantee sufficient contrast for different matrix materials in reflected light microscopy a special specimen preparation treatment is given. With this technique results can be achieved with a quality which is comparable with that from scanning electron microscopy.
