Abstract
Conventionally, large numbers of remote terminals requiring access to a central processing facility need multiple cable links. With multiplexing, however, a single cable can do the work of many dedicated terminal links with no deterioration in performance. Major installation cost reductions are achievable especially with highly-efficient, fibre-optic systems.
