Abstract

It is shown that optical amplifiers (OAs) can provide extra flexibility for unique fibre-optic filter designs, not available in passive configurations. Results are presented for both amplified and unamplified fibre-optic recirculating delay lines (AFORDL and UFORDL) indicating that the AFORDL is capable of realising filters not possible with the UFORDL.
