Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate the excitation of Bloch surface waves on the tip of single-mode optical fibers via a grating-coupled mechanism. In spite of unavoidable fabrication-related tolerances, we evaluate sensing performances in line with state-of-the-art plasmonic benchmarks, paving the way for the development of advanced ‘all-dielectric’ lab-on-fiber optrodes.
