Abstract

FiberSim (https://campbell-muscle-lab.github.io/FiberSim/) is an open source spatially explicit model of a half-sarcomere, that represents a hexagonal lattice of compliant thin and thick filaments. Similar to prior frameworks developed by the Daniel, Tanner, and Mijailovich groups, FiberSim incorporates a variety of molecular mechanisms taking place during striated muscle contraction, such as thin filament activation and cross-bridge binding. Like any mathematical model of a biological system, FiberSim provides a convenient way to test hypotheses about the role of different molecular mechanisms and is a useful adjunct to experimental techniques.
