Abstract

AbstractFiber lasers have been extensively deployed in advanced manufacturing applications such as precision cutting, marking, micromachining, rapid prototyping and high‐quality printing; their advantanges in terms of beam quality, dynamic range, wall‐plug efficiency, reliability and cost are well recognised. New degrees of operational freedom can often be achieved enabling major improvements in capability and/or competitiveness for end users. In some sectors (e.g. marking), fiber lasers have become the solution of choice and already take the predominant market share for new equipment investments. Their performance and operational advantages have led to widespread deployment, both geographically and in diverse applications. This market acceptance has led to several of the major industrial laser manufacturers entering the market with their own fiber laser products.
