Abstract

An improved multi-longitudinal mode fiber laser sensor formed by a fiber Bragg grating, a piece of Erbium-doped fiber and a fiber reflector is proposed and demonstrated experimentally. By using a fiber reflector, the presented sensor system has higher SNR and lower threshold than the original fiber sensor system with two FBGs. Experimental results show that strain sensitivities are -0.697 KHz/μɛ @ 915 MHz and -1.31 KHz/μɛ @ 1713MHz, respectively. The root mean square deviations are about 3.2 μɛ@915 MHz and 2.5 μɛ@1713 MHz.
