Abstract
This paper presents a practical method of detecting the fault point of optical fiber link based on the communication signal itself in optical network. The method collects the reference signal and the echo signal with the fault point information through the data acquisition device, and then uses the permutation entropy to extract the random part from the communication signals. Finally, the accurate measurement of the fault point of fiber link is detected by correlation operation. The experiment uses the communication signal transmitted in the time-division multiplexing passive optical network as the detection signal, and the detection object is G652 single-mode fiber with simulated fault point. Different from the traditional optical time-domain reflectometry, the proposed method can measure the fault point of the fiber link without disconnecting the normal communication network, achieve a position resolution of 15 cm, and reduce the measurement cost for the fiber link fault detection.
