Abstract

Today’s power systems are integrated with renewable energy generation resources, such as solar and wind power. Electrical power demand constantly fluctuates, which in turn causes a frequency and voltage fluctuation on the electric grid. In this article, the FFT analysis and mitigation of harmonics along with voltage control for various load scenarios of both R and RL loads for wind power plants equipped with Self Excited Induction Generators (SEIGs) based on multi-level DSTATCOM. The test system has been developed with a multi-level DSTATCOM fed SEIG based wind power plant to feed isolated loads of both R and RL type. The wind plant is subjected to speed variations and load fluctuations, SEIG generators are ideally suited to power the wind farm. A GTO based multi–level DSTATCOM is developed with Wind Energy System (WES) to maintain constant terminal voltage against various load scenarios as illustrated in this article, which demonstrates the effectiveness of multi-level DSTATCOM in voltage control and mitigation of voltage and current harmonics.
