Abstract

We present an ab initio and non-perturbative time-dependent approach to describe the response of a general atom to intense few-cycle laser pulses. After using a highly flexible B-Spline R-matrix method to generate field-free Hamiltonian and electric dipole matrices, the initial state is propagated in time using an efficient Arnoldi-Lanczos scheme. The method is illustrated with recent results for excitation and single ionization of Ne and Ar, as well as double ionization of He in a two-color pump-probe arrangement.
