Abstract

Publisher Summary This chapter presents some problems pertaining to the hypernuclear physics and lambda–nucleon interaction in low energy region. Many physicists consider hypernuclear physics as a special field of research located somewhere between nuclear and elementary particle physics. The chapter explores the ground state binding energies of the light hypernuclei, the cross-sections of the free lambda proton elastic scattering, and the excitation energies of the γ-decaying hypernuclei. The hypernuclear gamma and pion spectroscopy experiments seem to display the most promising perspectives for future work in this domain. The other important problems in the field of hypernuclear physics are those concerned with double hypernuclei, heavy hypernuclei, and hypernuclear decays. The chapter provides an overview of the emulsion technique, bubble chamber technique, and counter technique. It also discusses a phenomenological study of the s-shell hypernuclei and the lambda–nucleon interaction. Moreover, the contribution of the phenomenological central ΛNN potentials to the binding energy of hypernuclei has been studied by various authors.
