Abstract

The pH value of cord blood was estimated by glass electrode method in 216 cases of fetal distress and also in 40 control cases. The average pH value was found to be reduced in fetal distress. Considerable acidosis was noted even in those infants who were born in a satisfactory state, despite their suffering from intrauterine distress. In fetal distress cases, it was observed that the degree of acidosis ran a parallel course with the severity of fetal anoxia.
