Abstract

The present study aimed to monitor the fetal development in pregnant cows and estimate the coefficient determination between age of the pregnancy and different fetal parameters using high-frequency trans-rectal ultrasonography. This study was carried out in the College of Veterinary Medicine-Diyala University, and involved eighteen pregnant multiparous cows, were inseminated artificially, detection of pregnancy was performed with 6.5-7.5MHz linear transducer. The ultrasonic scan was performed from 40-100day of pregnancy, with a 10day intervals. The crown-rump length (CRL), trunk diameter (TD), eyeball diameter (EBD), head length (HL) and umbilical cord (UC) were significantly (P≤0.05) increased with gestational age. The current study showed the parameters, CRL: y = 2.363x - 83.99, (r2 = 0.9606), TD: y = 0.6793x - 20.821, (r2 = 0.9741),HL: y = 0.923x - 28.28,( r2 = 0.9889) UC : y = 0.155x - 1.9, (r2 = 0.961)as ascertained to be the more actual measurements than EBD: y = 0.24x - 8.34, (r2 = 0.8898), as a high coefficient determination with gestational age. The study was concluded that the maximum accurate prediction of the age of gestation was provided by CRL, TD, HL and UC parameters of the fetus. A single linear estimation equation would be the most appropriate to practice under field conditions in the cow.
