Abstract
Abstract In the contact between detrital beds and the fissured chalk deposit which they cap, exposed in a quarry west of Gasny, Normandy, France, occurs a series of regularly spaced pockets, filled with calcareous material and rounded at the base, which gives the appearance of a festoon. It is concluded that the pockets represent transverse sections of postglacial polygonal soils rather thanproducts of decalcification or mud flow.
